COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF A COACH AS AN EDUCATOR

DURATION: 1 HOUR
Seminar led by prof. dr. v. b. fominienė

The communicative behaviour of the sports coach can be named as one of the key components of the coaching process. After all, professional communication is much more than the words said by us. As one of the most important parts of the social competence, the coach’s communication must manifest itself by the ability to communicate intentionally, efficiently, effectively and constructively in order to achieve a positive outcome: employing positive relationships at the personal and team levels, to create an educational communicative environment. The latter is particularly important in providing athletes with knowledge, teaching necessary action skills and techniques, and in forming their system of values, which will enable them to self-develop persistence, responsibility, the goal-seeking conception and which will help them to express themselves as personalities more successfully. No less important are high quality coach-athlete relationships grounded on the principles of effective communication during sport sessions and competitions while ensuring a safe social-psychological environment and eliminating various manifestations of negative relationships, including bullying.

The aim of the seminar is to introduce coaches of a sports branch to the importance of the communicative competence while educating athletes, to present the preconditions for the coach’s effective communication and the elements of building positive interpersonal relationships.

The format of the seminar is an engaging lecture during which information will be supported by practical examples and case studies.

Main topics of the seminar:

The conception of communication and of the coach’s communicative competence;
Aims and forms of communication;
