I have been an educator at a university for over 20 years now and have been and avid athlete close to 40 years of my life. In that time, I have competed in different sports ranging from individual to teams. I have seen face to face the effects of bullying to the point where athletes have stopped participating in sports due to its effects. Bullying creates negative mental and physical issues for those suffering from this type of abuse. It can lead to severe depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, anger, frustration, and in some cases suicidal tendencies that can be avoided by better education and awareness on the subject. It is time for change.
